provided input and comments on earlier drafts of the paper. The Guardian project has benefitted from the contributions of many other present and past project members, including Abstract We present a domain-specific software architecture (DSSA) that supports development of a variety of intelligent patient monitoring (IPM) agents through component reuse and reconfiguration. Specifically, the IPM DSSA comprises: (a) a reference architecture that supports the shared functional requirements of IPM agents and provides a framework for configuring diverse application-specific sets of components; (b) principles for decomposing IPM expertise into highly reusable components, along with a growing library of such components; and (c) an interactive application configuration tool that helps a user to select application-relevant components from the library and automatically configures selected components within the architecture. We demonstrate the efficacy of the IPM DSSA with results from the Guardian project, a series of experimental agents for monitoring intensive care patients.

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents
Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....
متن کاملA distributed Intelligent Agent Architecture for Gas-Turbine Engine Health Management
Control and Health Monitoring of complex systems such as Gas-Turbine Engines can potentially receive great benefits from the use of advanced software technologies. However, techniques such as Intelligent Agents, Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms are predominately designed to optimally perform specific functions, while the rest of the functionality is better achieved using conventional tech...
متن کاملIntelligent Agent-Based Monitoring Platform for Applications in Engineering
In real world monitoring engineering applications, knowledge engineers must face the complexity and diversity of tasks associated with specific problem domain. This often implies tackling simultaneously different types of knowledge (inaccurate, incorrect or redundant) from different data sources that require to be processed using different reasoning mechanisms. The real world problems may neith...
متن کاملPutting Intelligent Characters to Work
ize intelligent characters. Our technology grew out of research on intelligent agents, begun at the Rand Corporation and pursued over a decade at Stanford University. At its core, the “dynamic control architecture” models the orderly yet opportunistic nature of human cognition (Hayes-Roth, 1985). It provides a uniform mechanism by which an agent triggers and chooses among context-appropriate ac...
متن کاملDevelopment, and evaluation of drug monitoring system for multiple sclerosis patients
Background and Aim: Taking a wide range of medications in Multiple sclerosis (MS) patients can lead to side effects and drug interactions. Therefore, the use of intelligent systems such as drug monitoring systems can help in the effective and timely treatment of MS disease. In this regard, the present study was conducted to design, development, and evaluation of the drug monitoring system for m...
